Holiday RAWK 2017 Preshow Prep (Making Business cards)

One of the promotional items that I am working on for the show next week are new business cards. I don’t give out a ton, but for showing work and connecting with people, the business card is still ideal. Here are a few tips and reasons why.

Why the business card still works?

Considering the age of texting, social media facebook, instagram and all of those things, the need for the personal business card seems to have never gone away. It’s like a little piece of yourself you can give to a potential customer or client. This will make them remember you when you don’t have access to social media. If you happen to have a professional beneficial encounter with someone you are not going to stop to find a wifi signal to connect on social media. This is the reason why the personal business card is still the top way to exchange information. It’s a quick exchange which you can then refer back to later on when you are home.

What kind of card do you need?

There are many kinds of cards you can use to get the point across. You can go the traditional route of the small pocket sized card. You can go more of the unique route with a non traditional shape or design.
The point is to have the most key and relevant parts of your contact information you want to include on the card. If you are an artist or photographer, having your work on the back of one of the sides of the card is not a bad idea either. A lot of sites give you this option so you can provide your audience a preview of your work. Your goal here is to leave a memorable impression with your design and help your client or customer to remember you later on when they go back to find your information and follow up.

Sites and other resources

There are a ton of sites that you can use for printing purposes.
My personal favorites are
-Vistaprint.com
-Moocards.com
These two sites have easy interfaces, the ability to upload designs, customize layout, pick a card style, etc. and much more and also ship to you when you are ready.
Also, take a look and explore what other promotional ideas you can come up with that might be useful.
You can have a business card with a discount code on the back, or a free download link item help your audience remember you. The most important thing is for the business card to do the work for you so that your potential client or customer doesn’t have to.

RAW Urban Artists Showcase Reminder - Update Dec 20th

By now you might have gotten an e—mail about the show that I am participating in for the “RAW natural born artists” festival taking place on Dec. 20th. at Cathedral Hall in Jersey City.
I know that folks are busy between now and the holidays, so I will be sending a handful of reminders leading up to the ticket deadline of Dec 12th.

As part of the showcase there will be local artists exhibiting art over a variety of genres and mediums
including visual arts, photography, hair & make-up, fashion, accessory design, DJ and live music and
performance art. Woot! We are expected to have 600 to 800 attendees, including press. You can even do some late holiday shopping for your artistically inclined friends who you didn’t have time to shop for until last minute (it happens).

I am working to sell 20 tickets to help promote the event and cover my cost of exhibiting.
Your support would be greatly appreciated. The tickets are only $22 and need to be sold in advance by Tuesday December 12th in order for me to participate. Also, proceeds for tickets sold after the 20th ticket will go towards hurricane relief in PR for Hurricane Maria.

You can buy tickets by going here:
(click on the buy tickets link on the lower left hand side)

It looks like it’s going to be awesome, and your support would be super awesome!

Thanks super much everyone, looking forward to seeing you!

RAW Artists Showcase Holiday RAWK 2017

The RAW artists network is a group of artists from all different disciplines that hold events to showcase their work all over the US (and possibly internationally?). The types of different artists include all kinda from painters, designers, accessory makers, to performance and makeup artists. Judging from the previous photos and events, it looks to be quite the spectacle. Well,  I am really happy and excited to announce I have just been accepted to participate in the RAW artists’ RAWK Holiday Showcase for 2017.
This feels so different than any other showcase I have participated in before. Unlike other shows, there is an application process that you need to go through in order to be accepted. Then once you are accepted, you have the ability to showcase your work in a professional, yet stylish art space.

You are also given a lot* of logistical guidance on how to prepare for the show logistically, how to promote the show, get the word out, sell tickets to promote yourself and more.
There are weekly phone calls leading up to the show (I have one on Tuesday of this week, followed up a final walk through of the space and a detailed schedule of what needs to happen leading up to the event.)
It really really feels professionally done, and that they give you a lot of help in getting ready for the event. I am really excited about it, and will be writing about the process to get ready for the event in the next few weeks. This will give you an idea of how to prepare for an art show such as this one and I am sure I will learn a lot and will be happy to pass along what I learn.

The artists showcase takes place on December 20, 2017 at
Cathedral Hall
380 Montgomery Street
 Jersey City, NJ 07302
You can check out a link to the event here:

-You can checkout my RAW artists profile here:
(you create one to showcase your work and sell tickets)

Tickets for the event are pre sold (not at the door),
this replaces the need to pay for a table that most spaces charge.

-To get a sense of the event from past showcases you can check out previous photos here:

-Even better is a welcome video where you can see it all in action:

I am super excited about being a part of this and will write more in the weeks to come.
